What is a good hotel to stay at in New Orleans for Jazz fest?

We are looking for a place where you can keep your car safe and walk everywhere you want to go. Possibly locally owned. Not too expensive. Around $100-$150 per night. 3-4 people are going. Were going down for Jazz, crawfish and drinking.
Answer: The JazzFest is held at the Fairgrounds, which is not within realistic walking distance of downtown, There are are not any hotels close to the Fairgrounds. Best is to stay at a hotel in the French Quarter, Central Business District, or Warehouse District. That was you are within walking distance of everything downtown. There is limited parking at the Fairgounds. DO NOT try to park in the neighborhoods arounf the Fairgrounds. The area is safe, but scores of Parking Control Agents and dozens of Parking Control tow trucks will be combing the area looking for illegally parked cars to take to the impound lot. It is a residential neighborhood and the residents have complained for decades about cars blocking their driveways, etc. during JazzFest so the City responded with "zero tolerance" parking enforcement. NEW ORLEANS JAZZ FEST for a teen?

Hey Im 16 years old and our schools music program is going to the jazz fest. I was just wondering what kind of partying is there for teens? concerts get crazy? any night clubs that have "teen night"? any place to go for the most fun? thanks
Answer: Jazz Fest Is great for all ages. The music is great and food superb. There is also stands to do some shopping. The concerts don't get really crazy it is like any outside music festival but huge. There is not any decent teen clubs in New Orleans but there is one in metairie. I think a good idea for your group would be to go to Preservation Hall. It is a very famous music hall for all ages and does not Serve alcohol and no smoking. Because of this all ages are allowed. It would be nice to go to a nice dinner in the quarter, go to preservation hall and then go to cafe du monde for beignets.

i was working last night (May 3) at a coffee house during the final festivities of Jazz Fest. During our slow part of the night, i think Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban came in and got coffee. I just want to make sure Im not crazy, but did anyone else see them or hear about them being in New Orleans at the time?

Answer: Visit the Jazz Fest's website http://www.nojazzfest.com and click on "Hotels" within the "travel" link near the top. It has an up-to-date list of available hotel rooms in the New Orleans area. The info on each hotel includes a toll-free phone number, so you can call the hotel for tickets as well as reservations. The Jazz Fest's website also has a "Tickets" link which allows you to purchase tickets online for the advance price of $35 per day. Tickets are $45 on the day of the event.

Answer: Catch the RTA. The Broad Bus. Get off on the street after Esplanade and walk like 3 blocks and BAM, the race track. Usually the bus driver know what it is and RTA usually makes a bus that goes straight to the Jazzfest. You catch on Canal Street by the old Krauss.

Anyone going to JAZZ FEST in New Orleans?

Its the end of April I think, maybe in May too. Are the tickets expensive, and where to stay? Where to get a cheap flight? Any other tips?
Answer: Check out www.nojazzfest.com: The website has the dates, ticket prices, and info on airline & hotel discounts. The festival is held at the Fairgrounds, which is a track for horse racing. The Fairgrounds is NOT within realistic walking distance of downtown and parking a car at or close to JazzFest is impractical. There are no hotels close to the Fairgrounds. Many hotels offer a shuttle to jazzFest and taxis are available.Public transit (see www.norta.com) should be able to get you to within medium walking distance of the Fairgrounds. Bicycling would work if the Fairgrounds has somewhere to secure your bike (call & ask if you might do that). New Orleans' weather is typically warm to hot by the end of April, so wear light cotton clothes + comfortable shoes and bring sunblock + insect repellent. It may rain so be prepared for that.

How early should I show up to NEW ORLEANS JAZZ FEST?

Im going to be there Sunday 4/27 and I want to see Tim McGraw. How early should I show up to make sure I get a good spot? Anyone have any pointers? Its been a few years since Ive been to the Jazz Fest....
Answer: The gates to the Fairgrounds open at 11:00am. If it is really important to you, locate the stage where Tim Mcgraw will play and "stake out" a spot. People do that with a blanket, but someone has to stay with the blanket as there will probably be other performances before Tim McGraw is on stage. Otherwise you take your chances.

Going to Jazz Fest in New Orleans but flying to Lafayette?

Does anyone know how easy it is to take a bus from Lafayette Airport to New Orleans? Im trying to avoid renting a car. But I dont want to get stranded when I arrive late in the evening. Other suggestions? Maybe a ride board for Jazz Fest goers? Thanks
Answer: it is about 2 hours 10 minutes. You can take a greyhound bus or amtrak. You can get on a greyhound bus at 10:45 pm but it takes longer to get there like 7 hours. You could just rent it and then return it at the new orleans airport when you get there. It looks like the greyhound bus and the amtrak has so many stops that it will take so much longer to get there.

Affordable rental homes for Jazz Fest in New Orleans?

5-8 friends want to find an affordable rental home for jazz fest in New Orleans. Any recommendations for neighborhoods, things to watch out for, etc? Ive heard some mixed reviews on vrbo.com - as in people getting ripped off. I havent been for 10 years, but looking for something that may be accessible to transportation and safe for a house full of mostly women.
Answer: There is a great house you can rent next to tipitinas uptown. They even have a private entrance to tips and give some tickets to shows. It has a 8 person hot tub with a outside TV where you can watch the shows live outside. You can also watch them on the TVs inside. It is called the The Tchoup House... Does anyone have any suggestions for someone going to Jazz Fest in New Orleans for the first time?

Answer: Alright, looks like other people have the New Orleans scene covered for you, so let me break down what are the must-eats at Jazz Fest. I was having this discussion with a buddy the other day and he said that a local's preferences may be wholly different from that of a tourist - seeing as how I can get boiled crawfish any day of the week, but not crawfish bread. So, here are my official recommendations on the best eats at Jazz Fest. #1 Cochon de Lait PoBoy - slow roasted pulled pork with homemade cole slaw served on french bread. Top with a little hot sauce, and seriously, the BEST thing to eat at the fest. #1b if you don't get that, get the Cuban Sandwich. Ham, pork, pickle and cheese on buttered and pressed french bread. Delicioso. #2 Crawfish Bread - some people are tired of it (but that's how I feel about the Crawfish Monica) crawfish, bell peppers, cheese, and some secret seasonings all baked in a pizza dough like crust. Delish. #3 Fried Fish Ferdinand (first time I had it this year) - a filet of speckled trout (I think, could've been drum) lightly fried and topped with a rich creole sauce - almost a meunier - with a shrimp or two. Flaky & succulent. #4 Creole's Stuffed Bread. You ever eat a Natchitoches meat pie? Well it's like that but baked inside a doughy chewy crust instead of a fried pie crust. You break it in half and douse it in a tomatillo like green hot sauce, and it's effin awesome. Okay, those are my top picks. Other picks, especially if you've never had them: Softshell Crab PoBoy, Yaka Mein, Jambalaya, there's a combo plate that comes with a thing called a Crawfish Sack, some crawfish beignets and something else; that's good stuff. And after I'm all done, I like to top it all off with a mango freeze. Now, You can't possibly eat all of this in one day. Heck, I went for three days this past weekend, and I didn't get to eat everything I wanted. But stick with these, and you can't go wrong. Unfortunately I can't make it back this weekend coming, so Happy Dining, and I'll see you next year.
